Lads a friend owns a version 4 1998 WRX STi Impreza. Its a track car and is only used a few times a year. He rang me today after starting it for the first time in three months. He tells me the engine sounds great but when he try to put it in gear it will not go into any gear while the motor is running but will go in and out of gear fine when the engine is stopped.
Myself without seeing it, I think the clutch plate is stuck on the flywheel or pressure plate.
What do you think and if it is a stuck plate what is the best way of unsticking it without having to remove the gearbox?
Thanks Mark.

I am trying to help a friend.
He changed out the valve body in a 2011 Outback 2.5L w/CVT.
We connected with the SSM III SW via AVDI. We told it to do the teach in 3 times!
Software said key OFF, then key ON, shift to D after idle settles down. It failed when software advised to put foot on brake and engage drive.
Abnormal termination.
Try again.
Has anyone been able to do this, at all?
Has anyone been able to do this with the AVDI?
The software, advised us to raise Trans oil temp to 40-65 degrees, we did, we lifted vehicle after told to once min temp was achieved.
Seems like this might be possible to do in an actual drive cycle.
Thanks for any idea's?
UPDATE
Thanks for the help MVAuto and KLM!
I just finished talking with Thom Facinelli RE the teach in.
He took car out for a 5 minute road test, came back to shop and hooked up the SSM III with AVDI, went through the teach in, No Problem.
Happy, Happy.

Perhaps a strange request but does anybody know/or can find out the piston to bore clearance and the above vehicle.

This is going to be re-bored with 0,50 over size OE pistons and the only spec I can find appears to be too small at 0.010-0.030mm which is 4 tenths of a thou up to 1.2 thou, which from memory is wrong (rule of thumb is one thou per inch of bore)I know these are short skirted pistons that will affect the clearance but it just seems too tight.

Can anybody shed any light on this?
